Over the years, Christmas has been commercialized so much making it difficult at times to focus on the true meaning of this joyous celebration.
When our kids were younger, we had a yearly tradition that, although they are older and no longer live with us, we still enjoy to this day with them and our grandchildren.
On Christmas day, the entire family gathers around the tree where my husband, Alberto, shares the bible story of Jesus’ birth found in the book of Luke. The kids ask questions and each one shares the blessings they have received and why they are grateful to God for. We ask them to then share their prayer requests for the new year and Alberto prays for each one of us.
This is one of the family traditions we have always kept and afterwards we open gifts, eat and sing Christmas songs.
This time of year may be difficult for some, where they have lost someone they love, or have immigrated to a new place and are far from their families, but may we always remember that the true reason of Christmas is the birth of Jesus, who came to the world to bring light and peace into our hearts.
